Joan Myerson Shrager has been a professional artist for over
25 years and has exhibited her work in many shows. She studied painting,
sculpture and ceramics at Moore College of Art and Design, Tyler School of Art
and the University of the Arts and taken many workshops. For the past two years
she been working exclusively on the computer and has been creating digital art
using Illustrator and Photoshop with a Wacom tablet and stylus. She wrote that
she has never attended a class in computer art.
The painting “In our hands” really caught my eye. The
painting is rich in color as well as meaning. In my opinion, this painting said,
we are all people in the human race. I see beautiful hands of all colors reaching
out to help their fellow man. Some holding hands to offer support. Others are clapping in approval of what they
see taking place. While some have out stretched hands reaching and waiting to
offer help. Children watching with smiling eyes as adults unify. I believe the
woman in the center of the picture is the artist. I see an artist with her stylus painting a
picture of the world she sees or would like to see.
I hope in the near future we work towards this picture becoming our reality. We should not wait for a natural disaster or a community tragedy to come together. On a global level we need to realize that we all need each other because no man is an island. With two hands you can work a garden with many hands you can tend a field. With unity everything and anything is possible.
Indeed... no one is an island. I just came back from the memorial in Newtown that is staffed everyday right off exit 10 on I84. The message is one of overwhelming care and emotional outpouring of love and prayers for the slain children and their families.
