Being that this week we have been
tasked with making a little video; I researched Corey Barksdale. This piece is called Love for Art and a Girl; it is a digital video.Barksdale was born in Nashville, Tennessee. His family was full of artists. His Grandmother introduced him to color and
form at an early age. Barksdale’s mother
was gifted with an intuitive feeling for design and fastidiousness for detail; which
she expressed in all aspects of her daily life. Barksdale’s rich beginning is the root of
Barksdale's creative expression. He earned
his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at the prestigious Atlanta College of Art in
1994. While he was studying he was
heavily influenced by the abstract expressionists and admired such mainstream
artists as Jasper Johns, Clifford Still and William DeKooning. An appreciation of the African/American
artistic heritage was instilled in him by African-American masters Aaron
Douglas, John Biggers, Romere Bearden, and William Tolliver.
A Barksdale is a productive artist, his fine art subject
matter ranges from human figures to non-objective abstracts. In more recent years his concentration has
been on themes that portray the love and strength that exists within the
African-American community. Barksdale’s paintings
have graced the covers of books, magazines, CD covers, and posters.
