Week 2 MOCA: John Hughson

I found this work of art to be interesting by John Hughson whom is a Professor Emeritus of Visual Art and New Media at the State University of New York at Fredonia. He uses paint-and-draw applications for his work of art creationss. He draws directly into the computer as in drawing and painting using traditional materials. John states that the process of drawing leads to discoveries in content and imagery which leads to spontaneous and responses throughout the creative process. John's creativity in art includes experimenting, speculating, and referencing previous work done in sketchbooks, drawings and paintings.He considers himself to be a brilliant and dark colorist, and his art merges into the abstract with almost oriental lyricism.

Reclaiming Herself

Jeanne uses digital drawings, to create these nice pieces of work. Reclaiming herself stood out to me because in many ways i think this picture represents a lot of young women today. Society, celebrities and latest fashion shows how a female should look, act, and be. However, once you've reached that point where are okay with who you are, you start to reclaim  YOU, all the bits and pieces of what defines you starts to form the women you will become, and the things that were basically placed in you head as the "ideal" women stars to drain out.

The observer seems like a general old man that everyone passes by and never talks to but he is the one who could tell you every truth about your life you would never want to speak of. This picture was taken by Jeanne and turned into a piece of art that your mind and can explode and come up with so many possibilities on what is actually means. 

"My art is about the changes that permeate and transform our lives. The titles suggest their meaning for me, but I aim for universality and encourage individual responses. My sources are diverse and often unknown -- even to me. Branching organic lines could reference rivers, blood vessels, or perhaps the veins in a leaf. I merge plant and animal, inanimate and animate. Sometimes a tree becomes a person…or a person becomes a tree. I simply begin, respond to the evolving image, make numerous changes over the course of many work sessions, and continually evaluate composition until at last I am satisfied."

What's up this week?

Please go back to the syllabus and read the section on  the painting machine.  As usual, I have a video which explains in detail how to do it.  Once you have written your action script, then just play the action on different images....  either your own or those grabbed from the Internet.  Take a look at Toya's work and see some of the possibilities.  Remember to post an artist review as well this week.

Week Three Painting Machine

Christel Dall

Christel Dall is a photojournalist who works for a small daily newspaper in Denmark.  She studied philosophy and then took a little multimedia design. Dall recently began a journey into the world of digital art.  Dall uses her photographs and enhances them using Adobe Photoshop. She also likes to work with typography and likes to incorporate words as compositional elements in pictures.

Week 2 MOCA Christos Magganas

Christos magganas is the artist that created this piece.  Christos is from Greece. Christos has a BA degree in Design Studies and a MA in Communication design. His early focus was 3d design, magazines, and animation. Christos has done work for BBC magazine, National Geographics, and channel 4 in London (animation).
